Brass Scratch Brush with Lucite Handle - 4 Row Soft

This quality german brass brush features 4 rows of fine brass bristles, 3/4" long with a heavy duty Lucite handle. The extra long bristles make it easy to get into crevices.

Pieces to be brushed or burnished can be held in the palm of your hand or against a rubber block. A rubber block gives support to the piece and raises it up off the surface to make burnishing more comfortable. You can run this brush right over your fingers, the bristles are so soft. For bails and hard to reach spots, try out tube brushes.

Use the brass brush to burnish down the crystalline silver surface of freshly fired silver clay. The white surface is not a crust to brush off, but silver that is brushed or burnished down to compact the surface. Burnishing is the first step in the finishing process for metal clay.

Keep a dish of soapy water at the sink and dip the brush in the soapy water, then brush the item to be burnished in a steady, forward motion. Turn the piece in your hand or on the rubber block to maintain the same brushing motion. Any un-burnished areas will appear white when dry.
